Richmond, VA, March 19, 2015 —Dixon Hughes Goodman “DHG”, one of the nation’s top 20 CPA and Advisory firms, announced this week that it is moving its Innsbrook-based office to the James Center in downtown Richmond. The move, which affects 80+ of the multistate firm’s 1,800+ professionals, is set for October 2015. DHG will retain its Chester-based office.
The firm will occupy approximately 21,000 square feet on the 10th floor of One James Center, 901 E. Cary Street.
“This decision results from a strategic process begun three years ago,” said Gary Thomson, DHG Mid-Atlantic Regional Managing Partner.
“The move occurs at a time of great growth for DHG – a deepening of our advisory practice in addition to the growth of our solid audit and tax practices,” Thomson said. “We have been steadily and strategically adding experienced leaders in a range of advisory areas.”
“We have identified a downtown location and an environment that will appeal to the next generation of talent and that will, at the same, put us squarely in the middle of downtown Richmond’s vibrant mix of law firms, investment bankers, financial institutions, government agencies, public companies and other sources of business referrals and new client opportunities,” he said. “Downtown is a natural fit for us.”
Thomson emphasized that the profession is changing, and young professionals want to live and work in areas where they are close to the office and the buzz of entertainment that downtown Richmond has to offer.
When Thomson began his career in the profession 30 years ago, accounting firms did not have as much collaborative work space and room for open communication. “It’s different now, and the new office will reflect that difference, with an open-plan strategy, offering bright, blue-sky, collaborative spaces, lots of glass and light, and areas to gather in teams, with the freedom to think. The space is geared toward the millennial generation,” said Thomson.
“DHG’s mission centers around the careers of our people and around helping our clients achieve their goals,” he said. “So when we think about moving downtown, we will continue to provide our clients around the Central Virginia area with excellent service, and we’re going where our future leaders want to live and can build their careers.
“We also think that DHG’s commitment to social responsibility, as evidenced, for example, by our years-long involvement with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, is important to the upcoming generation,” said Thomson. “There is a talent war raging, and young professionals gravitate toward important causes and want to know that they are aligned with an organization that itself cares about community and sustainability.”
“DHG is unique in the Richmond area in its combination of risk advisory, tax advisory, transaction advisory, public company work and healthcare consulting,” added Paul Thompson, DHG Central Region Market Leader. “Other firms have some of these specialties, but not all of them, particularly based in the Richmond area.”
“DHG has an established 80+ year presence in Virginia, and we are committed to serving our clients here in the Richmond market,” said Thompson. “Our depth of industry and service line experience spans across 12 states and allows us to offer our larger clients substantial resources.”
“This is an exciting time for DHG, and we look forward to our new space in downtown Richmond.”
