Shentel Invests in Significant Fiber Network Expansion
February 2nd, 2016

100 Gbps Internet and Data Options for Business and Wholesale Customers

Edinburg, VA – February 2, 2016 – Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (Shentel) (NASDAQ: SHEN) is excited to announce a major network expansion that provides new state-of-the-art Ethernet, dark fiber, wavelength and Internet services to business, education, and healthcare customers as well as wireless carriers.

The expansion includes a significant investment in Shentel’s mid-Atlantic fiber optic network — a uniquely flexible infrastructure designed to support speeds up to 100 gigabits per second.  This technology allows customers to easily scale their data needs while Shentel assumes the burden of managing the high-speed optical bandwidth.

Areas immediately benefitting from the completed upgrade and expansion include:  Cumberland, MD, Morgantown, WV, and in Pennsylvania – Carlisle, Harrisburg, Hershey, Waynesboro and York.  In 2016, work is continuing in and around the Virginia cities of Staunton, Lexington, Lynchburg and Roanoke.

“We are extremely excited about our new network expansion and the opportunity to provide industry-leading solutions to our customers,” said Ed McKay, Senior Vice President of Engineering & Network Planning for Shentel. “We have more than 4,500 fiber route-miles and over 235 cell towers equipped with Shentel-owned fiber throughout Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.  We are committed to providing the most advanced fiber-base services to support the growing data needs of businesses, schools, and local governments throughout the region.”

Available solutions include Dedicated Internet Access, Ethernet services, Wavelength services, Dark Fiber, and Cell Site Back-haul.
