Gary Thomson Receives VSCPA Outstanding Member of the Year Award and Stephen Kimberlin Receives VSCPA Top 5 Under 35 Award

Richmond, V.A, May 18, 2017Dixon Hughes Goodman (DHG), a top 20 public accounting and advisory firm, is pleased to announce that the Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA) named Gary Thomson, CPA, Regional Managing Partner, as the VSCPA Outstanding Member of the Year at the VSCPA annual business meeting in Williamsburg, VA this week.  The VSCPA Outstanding Member of the Year Award recognizes a CPA member who has provided outstanding service to the accounting profession through participation in VSCPA activities, civic engagement and philanthropic activities to promote the accounting and CPA profession.  The VSCPA published an article about Gary Thomson’s award on its website.  To read that article, click here.

Gary Thomson has more than 32 years of public accounting experience advising clients through strategic business decisions.  He has served as an advisor on legislative policy initiatives on behalf of the accounting profession through his advocacy work with the VSCPA and the VSCPA Political Action Committee.  He is also on the VSCPA Board of Directors. As a past Chairman and current Board member of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce and current Chairman of the Virginia Chamber Foundation Advisory Board, he has advocated pro-business initiatives such as Blueprint Virginia, the Chamber’s long-term statewide economic development and business growth plan.

The VSCPA also awarded Stephen Kimberlin, CPA as a Top 5 Under 35 award honoree. This award is presented to five CPA young professionals in Virginia under the age of 35 who have demonstrated notable professional achievements, community involvement and dedication to the CPA profession.

Stephen Kimberlin is a tax manager with more than eight years of public accounting experience.  He advises clients on the tax aspects of business transactions, including sales and acquisitions for clients in the manufacturing and professional services industries.  He is a knowledgeable accounting and tax resource on issues such as entity format, tax aspects of business transactions, and tax aspects of shareholder/partner transactions.
