Richmond, V.A. July 18, 2017 –  Dixon Hughes Goodman held its annual Count the Cans food drive in June with employees and partners across its footprint donating dollars, canned goods and volunteer hours to hunger relief organizations in 13 states. In total, DHG donated 773,741 pounds of food and more than 880 service hours during the 10-day campaign. The firm has donated a total of 4,569,555 pounds of food over the past six years through Count the Cans.

“Serving our Metro Richmond area community is part of our DNA.  We are passionate about helping those in need by donating our time, money and food items to local food banks. In addition, we are thrilled to be named a finalist for the ChamberRVA Impact Awards, where we have the opportunity to share more about DHG’s impact on our people, the local community and local economy,” said Paul Thompson, Market Managing Partner, Central Virginia.

In the Central Virginia region, DHG offices are donating 3,468 food and pet items to the Chesterfield Food Bank and also giving $1,667 to the nonprofit organization, which serves 450 families each week and has distributed more than 500,000 meals to Chesterfield residents.  In addition, 27 DHG employees volunteered more than 100 combined hours of service to the Chesterfield Food Bank and FeedMore. Special theme days such as “Macaroni Monday,” “Tuna Tuesday,” and “Virtual Food Friday,” as well as an inter-office points-based competition were incorporated into the 2017 food drive to encourage employee engagement and friendly competition. Pet food was also collected and donated to local food banks and humane society organizations to help feed animals in need.
