CREWE, Va – As of Sunday at 8:15 P.M., all known, wind-related power outages caused when winter storm Riley moved across Southside Electric Cooperative’s (SEC) territory March 1-2 have been restored.

The devastating storm brought high, sustained winds and strong gusts, impacting trees and power lines across SEC’s 18-county service territory. SEC line crews along with mutual aid and contractor crews located and repaired 34 broken poles and numerous spans of wire torn down by falling trees. Crews worked around the clock since late Thursday night restoring power.

At the peak of the event, SEC experienced 462 outages, causing 19,915 members to lose power.

To expedite power restoration, SEC enlisted the assistance of 28 mutual aid and contractor crews.

SEC wishes to sincerely thank members for their patience during the extended outage event. It was a team effort of Cooperative employees, mutual aid crews and contract crews to restore electricity to members. SEC wants to thank everyone for their non-stop efforts over the last several days.
