ITA International and Virginia Tech kicked off their partnership in the Data Analytics Education program last night at a welcome presentation and reception. The program was designed to train transitioning service members and veterans in the fast growing field of Data Analytics, and was met with wide support from public officials at the local, state, and federal levels.
Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-R) was able to connect virtually to welcome and congratulate all of the students, and also in attendance were Delegate David Yancey, Virginia House of Delegates, 94th District and Vice Mayor Tina Vick, City of Newport News.
Dr. Tarun Sun will lead the 10-month program which gives participants the opportunity to learn new analytical methods and tools that support big data analytics operations. Dr. Sun gave an impressive overview of the course, beginning August 3, to both students and supporters at the welcome presentation. “The program that we have a developed is an offshoot of the Masters of Information Technology (MIT) program.”, said Dr. Sun on Thursday evening. He went on to say that data analytics itself is “an interdisciplinary domain that belongs to engineering, computer science, and business…we have to come together to build a program like this.”
ITA will fund the tuition for all 14 students which includes 12 transitioning service and veterans that were accepted into the program from over 30 applicants. Mr. Mike Melo, CEO of ITA International notes “ITA is proud to partner with Virginia Tech to offer the Data Analytics Program. ITA is founded on the guiding principle of “Serving those In The Arena” and we firmly believe in helping those men and women who voluntarily signed up to serve our country. The Data Analytics Program is another way to for ITA to help provide training and employment opportunities for our veterans.”
ITA International, a provider of integrated support services to government and non-government organizations worldwide, is debuting a Data Analytics Center and this program will provide veterans and servicemembers interested in working in this industry an opportunity to gain high-demand data analytics skills, build a career track, and join ITA’s professional workforce. ITA International has a long history of supporting veterans as they transition out of the military and recently received the Virginia Commonwealth’s Virginia Values Veterans (V3) Program Governor’s Award for Medium Sized Companies and was the first recipient of the new 2017 Trailblazer Award as the premier employer for hiring Veterans.
Students will receive a certificate of completion from Virginia Tech Continuing and Professional Education, a unit of Virginia Tech Outreach and International Affairs. Upon completion of the program, participants will have the opportunity to apply for employment at ITA’s new Data Analytics Center in Yorktown, VA.
