CREWE, Va – On Friday, May 17, Southside Opportunity Fund (SOF) will host its fifth annual Opportunity Fund Golf Classic at Lake Chesdin Golf Club in Chesterfield. The tournament will raise funds to create educational scholarships for students who are children of Southside Electric Cooperative (SEC) members.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from this tournament are awarded as scholarships to local high school seniors. This 501(c)(3) nonprofit was established to provide opportunities to students across SEC service territory.
In 2018, the tournament successfully raised over $15,000. Since 2015, the Opportunity Fund Golf Classic has grossed more than $56,000 for scholarships.
These scholarships will assist those planning to attend a college or a technical/training school after graduation. A number of scholarships will also be reserved for students enrolling in Southside Virginia Community College’s Power Line Worker Training School.
Registration for the captain’s choice tournament will run from 8:45-9:45 a.m., with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. A foursome package includes carts, range balls and a boxed lunch with three drink tickets per golfer, all for $400. Sponsorship packages are also available.
