Norfolk, VA (April 4, 2019) – Vandeventer Black attorney Michael D. Pierce was selected as a member of the Board of Directors of St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children. Pierce now joins the executive team of St. Mary’s to be part of the decision making process on business and administrative matters of the Home.

“As a parent and former public school teacher, the welfare of children is one my deepest concerns.  The opportunity to work on the Board of St. Mary’s is a tremendous opportunity for me to learn and grow as an advocate for one of Coastal Virginia’s most vulnerable populations.  I feel especially honored to be chosen to serve at St. Mary’s, given the organization’s long history of compassionate care for children.  I am committed to putting in the work it takes to serve effectively alongside my distinguished veteran colleagues on the Board,” said Pierce.

Pierce prioritizes and values his community involvement. He is currently in his third year of service as Treasurer for the South Hampton Roads Bar Association (SHRBA) and as a member of the Bar’s Executive Committee. Additionally, he is heavily involved in SHRBA’s community service efforts, working with other bar members on tours of the Norfolk Courthouse for students from the Boys and Girls Club Tidewater Park Unit. Pierce also travels with SHRBA to local high schools to participate in the “So You’re 18” program for high school seniors, and serves on the selection committee for SHRBA’s law student of the year award.

He also volunteers to work with the moot court programs of local law schools, Regent University Law School and the Marshall-Wythe School of Law, College of William & Mary.  Furthermore, Pierce regularly speaks to incoming law students at Regent University Law School about the value of legal education and the power of attorneys to impact change and progress in their local communities and society as a whole.
