The Virginia Chamber Works Collaboratively with Pro-Business Legislators to Defend Virginia’s Economic Climate, Save Jobs, and Prevent Billions of Dollars of Increased Financial Burden on the Business Community
Richmond, VA – This morning, the Virginia Chamber of Commerce announced the results of their analysis of the potential negative fiscal impact of anti-business legislation put forward during the 2019 General Assembly Session. In collaboration with pro-business legislators and other community stakeholders, the Chamber successfully defeated anti-business legislation which preserved more than 156,000 jobs and helped to save $17.9 billion dollars. “As we reflect on the successes of the 2019 legislative session, it is important to stay focused on the work to come in order to continue to advance the policy recommendations established in Blueprint Virginia 2025 , said Barry DuVal, President and CEO of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, “We must remain committed to our efforts to foster an economic climate in Virginia that promotes business investment and growth, and positions us, once again, as the best state for business.
Charlie Meyer, The Chairman of the Virginia Chamber’s Board of Directors and Managing Partner to O’Hagan Meyer PLLC, echoed similar sentiments, “The Chamber closely monitors the impact of state regulation on our business community and on the way in which we do business in the Commonwealth. Our goal is to make Virginia the number one state to do business in the country, and we know it is more important than ever to ensure the Commonwealth promotes pro-business legislation supporting employees and employers across the state.”
Key wins include legal reform, tax competitiveness, education and workforce, economic development, and I-81 improvements.
The Chamber’s main areas of focus are highlighted in the Blueprint Virginia 2025— the Chamber’s comprehensive initiative that provides business leadership, direction, and long-range economic planning for Virginia.
