Two Virginia Business Organizations to Host First Unmanned Systems Symposium and Aerospace Gala at the Hampton Convention Center in October

(Hampton, Virginia) On October 24th and 25th, the Virginia AeroSpace Business Association (VASBA) and the Hampton Roads chapter of the Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (HR AUVSI) are collaborating to host a symposium on unmanned systems and a “black-tie optional” gala. The two-day symposium will highlight existing capabilities and operational shortfalls in the field of Unmanned Systems. Proceeds support robotics programs in Hampton Roads schools. The gala will feature Dr. James Hansen as the keynote speaker. Dr. Hansen is the author of “First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong.” As the country continues to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, Hansen will provide his perspective on the first man to make the “giant leap for mankind.” Hansen has worked as the Historian-in-Residence at NASA Langley Research Center, and presently is Emeritus Professor of History at Auburn University. The annual gala is VASBA’s primary fundraising event, and allows VASBA to provide financial support for many K-12 sponsorships and college scholarships for students in STEM-related curricula throughout the Commonwealth.

VASBA, the premier aerospace industry association for the Commonwealth, represents companies, nonprofits and individuals engaged in Virginia’s aerospace business sector. Its mission includes advocating for the aerospace industry; promoting business development and increased economic growth; and cultivating the aerospace workforce with educational outreach and professional development opportunities.

HR AUVSI serves the needs of defense and industry technologists who are supporting unmanned systems development. It works closely with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard, NASA and 18 local municipalities to promote unmanned systems and supporting technologies, ensuring Hampton Roads remains a leader in this emerging industry.
