Statement of Barry DuVal on the Passing of Senator Benton “Ben” Chafin

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA –– Barry DuVal, President & CEO of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, released the following statement on the passing of Senator Benton “Ben” Chafin.

“The Commonwealth has lost a true statesman, friend, and fierce advocate for Southwest Virginia. Ben was well known for his unwavering commitment to his region and the people he represented, and we are a better Virginia because of it.

“Senator Chafin was a relentless fighter for what he believed in and could often be found giving an impassioned floor speech. During his time in the General Assembly, Ben fought tirelessly for small businesses. Knowing the challenges of owning and operating a small business himself, Senator Chafin was a true champion for Virginia’s businesses throughout his years of public service.

“Above all, Ben was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. My prayers are with his wife Lora, his children Sophie, Audra, and Gus, and their entire family. Ben was beloved by many, will be sorely missed, and his legacy of devotion to the Commonwealth will be remembered fondly for years to come.”
