Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond Presents Online Series, “District Dialogues: Educational Disparities and COVID-19”
February 11th, 2021

The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond is presenting an online series, “District Dialogues: Educational Disparities and COVID-19,” starting February 18, in which Richmond Fed economists will discuss with educators and policymakers from across the the nation the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on students and their teachers, particularly those students who are most at risk.

Dr. Sonya Santalease, CEO of Baltimore City Public Schools, is a featured speaker during the Feb. 18 kick-off event. She will share moving stories and insights during her virtually recorded interview about the highs and lows that Baltimore students and their teachers have endured during the pandemic, and how severe and lasting some of the consequences may be.

The six-session series will also offer insight into what’s working to help struggling students, as well as an opportunity to dissect the economic implications of these challenges. Registered participants can view the video recordings in the series and the related online content at the time of its release or later.

“These educational disruptions can have long-lasting consequences for kids — especially kids who were already at risk — and for the economy as a whole,” says Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin. “It’s a critical issue for us to be thinking about and sharing what we know.”

Each hour-long session focuses on a theme and features speakers, panel discussions and case studies. We hope you can attend or pass along this information to a colleague who may cover education or any of the issues addressed in the sessions.
