Richard Howard-Smith Elected Governing Council Virginia State Bar 16th Judicial Circuit

Flora Pettit congratulates Richard Howard-Smith on his election to the governing Council of the Virginia State Bar (VSB) for the 16th Judicial Circuit for a three-year term.  The 16th Judicial Circuit encompasses the City of Charlottesville and the Counties of Madison, Greene, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Goochland, Louisa, Orange and Culpeper.  The VSB was created in 1938 by the Virginia General Assembly as an administrative agency of the Supreme Court of Virginia.  The VSB is governed by its Council, consisting of 81 members:  65 lawyers elected from the 31 circuits throughout the Commonwealth, as well as nine at-large members appointed by the Supreme Court of Virginia, four conference chairs, and three officers.  The mission of the Virginia State Bar is:  (1) to protect the public, (2) to regulate the legal profession of Virginia, (3) to advance access to legal services, and (4) to assist in improving the legal profession and the judicial system.  Richard is also currently serving his second term on the VSB’s Board of Governors for its Trust & Estates Section.
