Lumos Fiber to rapidly expand its ultra-fast 100% fiber-optic network across Virginia
December 7th, 2021

Over 12,000 homes and businesses will now have access to a future-proof, multi-gig speed
network as early as March 2022.

Waynesboro, VA (December 7, 2021)—Thousands of homes and businesses in Virginia will soon have
access to a state-of-the-art, 100% fiber-optic network from Lumos, a premier provider of
fiber-to-the-premise internet. In a continued expansion of its ultra-high-speed fiber internet
service, Lumos announced an accelerated construction schedule for expansion in Virginia, adding
more than 12,000 homes and businesses across five communities by the end of 2022.

Waynesboro, Augusta County, Stuarts Draft, Crozet, and Bedford County, including parts of
Lynchburg, will reap the benefits of a 100% fiber-optic network enabling economic growth and the
ability to attract gig workers who want to live, learn, work, and thrive in the region.

“Our ambition is to bring gig-speed fiber internet to as many communities as possible across
Virginia and beyond,” Lumos CEO Diego Anderson said. “I’m thrilled to announce our 2022 plans to
bring a future-proof network to even more of Virginia”.

Only a 100% fiber-optic network can provide virtually unlimited broadband capacity and synchronous
download and upload speeds necessary for today’s ultra-high-bandwidth applications, including HD
quality video meetings, virtual learning, latency-free VR gaming, e- commerce, and cloud
computing,” continued Anderson.

Construction will begin immediately, with plans for completion by the fall of 2022. Some
communities will have access as early as March 2022.

The announcement was met with widespread support from local leaders who are eager to have
a next-generation fiber-optic network to enable the gig economy in their communities.

Rapid Growth Ahead for Lumos
In early October, we embarked on a bold growth plan as a stand-alone company with an equally
ambitious fiber-optic network expansion commitment.

Since that announcement, our company has assembled a world-class executive leadership team to set
the stage for rapid growth in North Carolina, Virginia, and other Mid-Atlantic states.
Every executive leadership team member is integral to our company’s future by bringing unique and
robust experiences of successfully transforming companies and leading them to a high- growth

Lumos currently offers ultra-high-speed fiber internet service to nearly 200,000 residential and
business locations in Virginia and North Carolina. In 2022, Lumos will enable another 80,000 homes
and businesses, including many underserved areas, and launch a multi-gig fiber internet tier, with
speeds up to 2 Gbps for consumers and 10 Gbps for small businesses.

Additionally, Lumos plans to bring ultra-high-speed fiber internet service to underserved
communities is through public-private partnerships, meeting a critical need for the communities
they serve—as we did in recent announcements in Botetourt County and in the Alleghany Highlands
region of Virginia.
About Fiber-Optic Internet

Fiber-optic networks are made of glass filament and are capable of significantly more broadband
capacity, speed, and reliability than older generations of broadband networks such as DSL or coax
cable. Fiber is the only internet technology that allows for symmetrical speed connections, meaning
data can be uploaded and downloaded at the same ultra-fast speeds.
Upload speeds enable seamless connections for live applications such as live video uploads needed
for learning, working, or entertainment.

Lumos installs its fiber-optic network directly to the home or business, providing consumers
with a pure-fiber, best-in-class internet experience built for the next 100 years.
