BUSINESS LEADERS JOIN DANVILLE PITTSYLVANIA CHAMBER BOARD OF DIRECTORS

BOERRIGTER, KAUNECKAS, MATCZAK, AND SCRUGGS fill board seats for 2024 term  

[Danville, VA] – Robert Boerrigter, Philip Kauneckas, Angelika Matczak, and Beverly Scruggs were named to the Board of Directors of the Danville Pittsylvania Chamber of Commerce at the Chamber’s Annual Meeting on February 1, 2024. They will serve alongside 14 other board members who direct policy for the Chamber.

Boerrigter is the president and co-owner of Axxor North America located in Ringgold, VA. Axxor is one of the leading companies in the production of paper honeycomb. Production takes place in the Netherlands, Poland, and in Ringgold on state-of-the art production lines developed in-house. He obtained his BBA at Nyenrode, The Netherlands School of Business and his MBA at the University of Georgia.

He started his career at Arthur Young, a CPA firm in Atlanta GA, then joined KFC, where he worked for YUM brands for the next 16 years in various roles as Finance Director, Director of Operations Designate and Director of Restaurant Technology. In 2004 Robert joined Lantech, a global stretch wrapping equipment manufacturer as Chief Financial Officer, after which he ran their European office as the General Manager. Robert then joined the Axxor Group as a co-owner and president of Axxor North America. Axxor North America began manufacturing in 2012 with 10 employees, several of whom are still there today. Axxor’s current employment is approximately 50 people.

Kauneckas is the Operations Manager at Intertape Polymer Group (IPG) in Danville. He has over sixteen years of professional experience in engineering and lean manufacturing. Born in Australia and raised in the Washington, D.C. suburb of Herndon, VA, Philip has lived in the region since 2007. He holds a degree in industrial engineering from North Carolina State University and an MBA from Averett University. Philip was a recipient of the Chamber’s Young Professional PACE Award for Professional and Community Engagement in the Danville-Pittsylvania County Region in 2020. Kauneckas is a founding member of the Association of Energy Engineers – Danville Chapter and has held various officer positions within the chapter. Philip serves as an Advisory Member to the Danville Regional Foundation, the Averett University Business Advisory Committee, and is an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He is a Certified Energy Manager and Six Sigma Black Belt.

Matczak is the former CEO of EBI LLC, a manufacturing plant in Danville, VA, which she established in 2008 and has run successfully for over 15 years. She has over 20 years of experience in the field of bedding, upholstery manufacturing, and automation. She also served as a Development Director for six years in the Comforty corporate office in Poland, engaging in high-profile projects. She is a member of the Danville Public Schools Education Foundation Board of Directors and sponsors a Business Scholarship to aid high-school students interested in pursuing business careers.

Matczak holds a master’s degree in industrial engineering and an MBA from the Jack Welch Management Institute at Strayer University. Additionally, she has Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and Master Black Belt certifications, indicating her skills in quality management and process improvement.

Scruggs, a seasoned banking professional with 42 years of experience, has been an integral part of American National Bank and Trust Company since 1982. Serving as an ambassador for the bank, she excels in providing concierge services for both retail and commercial relationships, specializing in catering to public sector clients. In addition, she has played a crucial role as the Bankers Insurance Liaison for over 24 years, demonstrating her dedication to the bank’s success.

A proud alumnus of Danville Community College, Scruggs furthered her education at the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management in 2002 held at University of Virginia and sponsored by the Virginia Bankers Association. Her commitment to continuous learning is evident through her achievements, including completing Trust Fundamentals at SunGuard in 2008 and attending the Southeastern Trust School of Campbell University in 2018.

Scruggs has received numerous awards and recognitions for her high sales achievements and exceptional client experience. Rooted in faith and driven by a passion for helping others, her unwavering commitment is at the core of the exceptional client experiences she provides to both clients and the community. As she continues her role with American National Bank and Trust Company and Bankers Insurance, her impact on the Danville-Pittsylvania County areas, and surrounding regions is set to endure with the transition to Atlantic Union Bank.
