Fredericksburg, VA (February 13, 2024) – Mary Washington Healthcare’s Virginia Heart & Vascular Institute (VHVI) Symposium celebrated its 16th year on Saturday, February 10, at the Fredericksburg Convention Center. The event brought together nearly 250 medical professionals from the greater Fredericksburg region and throughout Virginia, including cardiologists, primary care and internal medicine physicians, advanced practice providers, and registered nurses, for a day of education, collaboration, and innovation.
The symposium focused on the latest research and treatments for cardiovascular disease, offering attendees valuable insights into case studies, evidence-based guidelines, groundbreaking approaches, and advanced treatment options. Distinguished faculty and speakers, including keynotes from Johns Hopkins Cardiology and VCU Health Cardiology, covered a range of key topics, including electrophysiology, structural heart disease, advanced strategies for managing heart failure, ischemic heart disease and cardiogenic shock.
This year’s symposium reached two milestones: a virtual option for attendees and poster presentations by MWHC’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) program’s PGY-1 internal medicine residents and their physician mentors. Another event highlight included the Exhibitor Hall, featuring over 28 sponsors and exhibitors providing additional educational opportunities in advanced cardiac care. Attendees had the chance to engage with industry leaders and explore the latest advancements in cardiovascular medicine.
“The VHVI Symposium is an excellent opportunity for healthcare professionals in Virginia to enhance their education and discover advances in cardiac medicine and the cutting-edge care delivered in the Fredericksburg region,” said Dr. Aaron Schatz, Cardiologist, Medical Director, Mary Washington Cardiology. “Each year we expand the symposium to reach a wider audience of healthcare practitioners, bringing together local and national thought leaders and clinicians.”
The symposium was planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Mary Washington Healthcare. The Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits were also available for physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurses through AAPA, AANPCP, ANCC, and AOA.
