Fredericksburg, VA, October 23, 2025 – On Sunday, October 5, Mary Washington Grief Support Services hosted Camp Rainbow, a grief retreat for children, at Mott’s Run Reservoir in partnership with Fredericksburg Parks & Recreation. This special day camp welcomed 19 children, ages 5 to 12, who are navigating the grief of losing a parent, sibling, grandparent, or other close loved one.
Camp Rainbow is designed to foster connection, coping, and remembrance through therapeutic and recreational activities. With the support of 10 dedicated volunteers, campers participated in music therapy, yoga, art, and canoeing, all aimed at helping them express emotions, build resilience, and find comfort in shared experiences.
“Camp Rainbow is a place where children can feel seen, heard, and supported,” said Amy Hoffman, Director, Mary Washington Hospice. “Thanks to the generosity of our community, no child ever pays to attend.”
Funding Camp Rainbow is made possible through events like Light Up a Life, which raise critical revenue to ensure grief support remains accessible to all. Mary Washington Grief Support Services is currently seeking sponsorships to expand its reach and continue offering healing programs for children, families, and individuals coping with loss.
