Fredericksburg, Va. — Through The Power of Change, Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) member-owners give voluntarily to support nonprofits that support those in need.
Most participants round up their electric bill to the next whole dollar, but gifts can also be a set monthly amount or a one-time donation. Twice a year, donations from The Power of Change are made available to 501(c) 3 nonprofit charities in our communities.
This fall, $101,340.23 was awarded to 24 nonprofits in our communities.
The Power of Change Fall 2023 Award Recipients include:
2 For 2 Foundation, Inc., Winchester, received $5,000 for their Swim Literacy program.
Aging Together Corporation, Culpeper, received $2,500 to assist with the Dementia Friendly Communities Initiative.
The Arc of North Central Virginia, Warrenton, received $3,000 to assist with TheArc@thePark program that provides activities and resources to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Greater Fredericksburg received $1,190 to support their Bigs in Schools mentoring program.
Boyce Railway Depot Foundation received $195 to provide supplies for their Historic Railway Depot Painting Project.
Bringing Resources to Aid Women’s Shelters (BRAWS), Frederick County, received $6,154.23 to provide undergarments and personal supplies to women and girls in need.
Come As You Are Ministry, Montpelier, received $5,000 to support outreach programs that provide food assistance to low-income individuals and families.
Coven of the Appalachian Mountains, Dyke, received $5,000 in support of their Community Care Closet for Greene County residents to provide hygiene products to school-aged children in need.
Essex County Museum & Historical Society received $2,500 for their Hands on History interactive educational project and activities.
Faithworks, Winchester, received $4,000 in support of the Pay It Forward program to supplement out-of-the-ordinary and unexpected financial burdens for low-income families and individuals.
Front Royal/Warren County C-CAP received $1,501 to assist with creating a new Family Resource Center computer station.
Giving Words, Louisa County, received $10,200 to support their Transportation and Community projects that assist single mothers with transportation and vehicle maintenance training and repairs.
Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity received $3,000 to help build 14 affordable homes within the Benchmark Road Subdivision project.
Hero’s Bridge, Warrenton, received $5,100 to support the Battle Buddy Nutrition Program that provides nutritional meals to low-income veterans.
Lake Anna Rescue Inc. received $5,000 to assist in the acquisition of an EMS Rescue Boat.
Literacy Volunteers – Winchester Area received $7,500 for their Family Literacy program.
Living by His Grace Ministries, Front Royal, received $5,000 to support their Human Trafficking Awareness Project to prevent the exploitation of children in our community.
Louisa Community Emergency Fund Inc. received $2,000 in support of the Touching Lives in Crisis program that offers financial assistance to families that have critical housing needs.
The Madison Free Clinic received $5,000 to assist with expanding the Healthcare Access for Madison County Residents program to include transportation costs.
Mental Health America of Fredericksburg received $5,000 to provide therapy and group services for underserved populations.
New Day Equine Therapy, Richmond, received $2,500 to provide therapeutic services to financially challenged individuals and families of Hanover, Caroline Spotsylvania and the surrounding counties.
St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church – Caroline County Cemetery Group received $2,000 to assist with The Oliver Cemetery Project to preserve and restore a historic cemetery in Caroline County.
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church – Culpeper Food Closet received $3,000 for their Culpeper Food Closet Buy-a-Bird project for Thanksgiving meals.
Upper King and Queen Volunteer Fire Department received $10,000 to assist with the purchase of a new 2023 Pierce Tanker.
