Following the same set of principles put forth by its founder Ward R. Scull in 1895, Virginia Transfer & Storage Co. celebrates its one hundred and twenty year anniversary this year. Virginia Transfer & Storage Co. will sponsor the children at the Boys & Girls Club for an evening at a Peninsula Pilots baseball game at the end of July. Additionally, Virginia Transfer & Storage Co. welcomes two Christopher Newport University students as interns for the summer of 2015.
The fourth-generation family-owned company was established in 1895 when Ward R. Scull started a moving company with horses, mules, and wagons. Now operated by Ward R. This summer, Virginia Transfer & Storage Co. is excited to welcome two Christopher Newport University students as interns. Shona Smith, a junior at Christopher Newport University, is studying Business Management with minors in Leadership Studies and Spanish. As a student-athlete, she knows what it is like to have a lot to balance in order to be successful and to stay focused on the task at hand. As an administrative assistant intern at Virginia Transport and Storage Co. she is learning numerous skills that will be useful for her future endeavors within the field of business.
Katelyn Meehan, a rising senior at Christopher Newport University, will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in childhood studies. She has been accepted into the Masters of Arts in Teaching program at Christopher Newport and will receive her master’s degree in elementary education the following spring. In addition to performing the duties of an administrative assistant, Katelyn will observe the day-to-day operations of the office in order to study that which makes a business effective.
The girls will be provided with great resume building opportunities and gain experience in the field of business as they both become familiar with daily operations in the office, observe and take part in pre-move sales, business marketing and promotion, accounting, and planning. The interns will be reporting on the strengths and weaknesses of the company at the end of the summer, in addition to making suggestions for the further development and success of Virginia Transfer & Storage. Virginia Transfer & Storage Co. believes that the work of the interns will prove to be a real asset to the growth and progress of the company.
