JA EMPOWERED THROUGH ETHICS – LOCAL BUSINESS LEADERS ADDRESS ETHICS WITH AREA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
September 20th, 2017

RICHMOND, VA –

How can the leaders of today empower the next generation to act ethically?

Through the JA Empowered through Ethics program!

Junior Achievement of Central Virginia’s (JACV) JA Empowered through Ethics, sponsored by PwC, brings local business executives into Greater Richmond classrooms to have frank discussions with high school students about the importance of ethics in business. Case studies, group work and personal experience all come into play in this very important and relevant program.

  • Schools from Richmond, Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico and Petersburg will participate. Teachers may contact Andrew Kirk (akirk@JAtoday.org) at JACV to request the program for their classroom.
  • Volunteers come from every industry including finance, marketing, service, education, retail and many more.
  • At only one hour long, this program is well-suited for business leaders who want to give back but have difficulty finding time to do so.
  • A Volunteer Breakfast will kick off the event:

•  Tom Gallagher, president emeritus of the Better Business Bureau Serving Central Virginia and chair of JA Empowered through Ethics, will be the keynote speaker.

•  Allen Riddle, director of the Advance College Academy and chairperson of the Business and Marketing Department at Highland Springs High School, will also speak on ways to engage students in the classroom and offer valuable teaching tips.

•  Sarah C. Martin, a partner with PwC and chair of the JACV board of directors, will address the breakfast attendees and discuss the importance of ethical decision-making in business.

WHEN

  • The breakfast will be held at the Jefferson Hotel on September 27, 2017, 7:30am-9:00am.  Registration is required – this event serves as a training for volunteers and as an informational session for those interested in learning more. Those interested may contact Jennifer Boyle at 804-217-8855 x203.
  • Executive volunteers will go into classrooms October-November.
