DANVILLE, Va. (Aug. 9, 2018) –Averett University today announced it has once again been recognized for its committed implementation of high-impact educational practices, retaining its title as one of the nation’s Colleges of Distinction. Additionally, Averett was recognized in three fields of study for innovative leadership: business, education and nursing.
This is the University’s sixth consecutive year receiving the honor. Averett is one of only 10 colleges recognized from Virginia, and one of only five private Virginia colleges.
“We are delighted and proud to receive this wonderful honor for the sixth year in a row,” said Averett University President Dr. Tiffany M. Franks. “It’s a true testament to our innovative teaching, dedicated faculty and staff, and our students who are so engaged in the community. It’s yet another demonstration as to why things like our commitment to service-learning and real-world experiences during the college years are so meaningful for our students.”
Colleges of Distinction’s selection process consists of a review of each institution’s freshman experience and retention efforts alongside its general education programs, alumni success, strategic plan, student satisfaction and more. Schools are accepted on the basis that they adhere to the four distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community and Successful Outcomes.
“We are absolutely thrilled to recognize Averett University as a College of Distinction for its effective dedication to student success,” said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer for Colleges of Distinction. “Colleges of Distinction is so impressed with Averett University’s curriculum, which is enriched with the kind of high-impact educational practices that are most crucial for student development. Such innovative engagement is preparing the next generation of young adults to thrive after college.”
