Hundreds of racers head to Danville next week

Next week, thousands of race team members, including over 600 racers, will be revving their engines and buckling up at VIR for the SCCA National Championship Runoffs. From Tuesday, Oct. 8 to Sunday, Oct. 13, the Sports Car Club of America’s crown jewel event will be held for the first time at VIRginia International Raceway. The elite race, which has taken place at Daytona and the Indianapolis Speedway, is predicted to bring the biggest field of drivers for any event at VIR and as a result, bring an influx of people to the Danville area.

For the first time at VIR, the race weekend will include six full days of testing days and qualifying races, culminating with the championship races on Sunday, Sept. 13.Tickets range from $10 – $60 and can be purchased here.

Filling local restaurants and businesses, thousands of race car drivers and their teams will convene in downtown Danville to kick off the event week on Monday, Oct. 7. With all these new faces coming to town, the race is set to be a huge economic driver for the area.
