Today, Governor Youngkin vetoed Senate Bill 259 and House Bill 418, which would have created class action lawsuits in Virginia courts. The Chamber’s strategic plan, Blueprint Virginia 2030, emphasizes the importance of a strong legal climate in attracting new business, incentivizing business expansion, and promoting economic growth. If these bills were enacted into law, particularly without guardrails like summary judgment, they would significantly undermine economic development and job growth in the Commonwealth and increase the cost of doing business.
The Governor’s action to preserve our legal climate protects Virginia’s overall business climate, which is consistently ranked as one of the best in the nation.
